ISAACS

Myrna Keppler Thu Jun 12 21:33:52 1997
I am researching the Andrew and Sophronia ISAACS family who lived in Granite Falls, Yellow Medicine County from the 1880s (some descendants are still there, I think). There were 12 children including Clara Louise, my husbands ggrandmother. Is anyone else looking for the same family? Related names: Barentson, Erickson, Forbord, Aarestad, Clementson.

My great grand mother Hannah DUNN met and married John ROBERTS in Canby some time in the 1880s. Hannah DUNN ROBERTS was licensed to teach second grade in Yellow Medicine County from 1890 through at least 1894. They had four children--James, Anna, Effie, and William. James, Anna, & Effie eventually moved to Oregon. William committed suicide by shooting himself in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County, in 1915. Hannah DUNN was born 1858 in England though I don't know where particularly. Her parents were Joseph DUNN b. 1800 and Anna Snell. Hannahs siblings included Emma b. 1855, Minnie b. 1863, Alice Mary b.1860, Bessie Susan b. 1868 and Thomas Jones DUNN b. 1865. John ROBERTS was born in Bolton-by-Boland Eng. 1852. I have a big box with many pictures circa 1900 from photographers in Canby, MN with no way to identify them. Any information or help would be greatly appreciated!

Candice Soine Fri May 30 02:52:29 1997
Looking for any and all Soine's in the area, I need all of you so I can organize this family tree. I can take it from our great- great grandfather Christopher Larsen Heenseie and his wife Anna Lajorde back to Norway to the 16th century, but I have almost nothing on those in the US other than my line, which is Syver Christopherson Soine to Christopher S. Soine, and most of us are in the state of Washington. Even more important is trying to find the decendants of Hans Peterson. Hans is my great grandfather, he married Anna Opoien (I found my Opoien family last month and I have a bunch of them). Hans is ] from somewhere in Denmark and came over with his brother Soren in 1854, they started in Iowa, compiled a lot of money and goods, and came to Granite Falls between 1865 and 1870. Hans was quite a character, loved his horses and horse racing, and was considered by many to be "the ugliest man in Minnesota." I don't know about that because I can't find any pictures, but maybe if I can find more relatives I may have some luck.

Researching the Opoien Family. Settled in Granite Falls about 1871-1873. Bernt Opoien, Lars Loe, and Andreas Loe, all brothers immigrated from Sor Trondelag about 1871, their sister Anna Opoien (my great-grandmother), came over in 1872 or 1873. I am beginning to find a few relatives, but looking for pictures and information about the area in that time frame. Lars loved horses and horse racing, there was supposedly a race track somewhere near Granite Falls, possible on the Indian Reservation. It appears that Lars met Hans "Horse Trader" Pedersen there (known as the "ugliest man in Minnesota). Hans was to marry Anna and become my great-grandfather. I have no information on Hans at all, other than he was born in 1829, and he came to the US in 1854 with his brother Soren Pedersen, the spelling changed later to Petersen. I do know that he was well known about the area, and was rather wealthy for the times. Anna also had a child before she met Hans, the girl was named Bertina S. Opoien, I am trying to trace who her father was. HOpefully someone out there who knows something will read this.

Where and when did Sven Ivan Johansson (Johnson?) die? He was born to Johan Svensson and his wife, Kristina Isaksdotter, 23 March 1875 in Vittaryd, Kronoberg län, Sweden. He emigrated from Sweden in February 1892 and arrived in New York City on the Anchor Line vessel, Circassia, 07 March 1892. He arrived in Canby, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota 16 March 1892. He worked as a farm hand and probably died in Minnesota, single, and sometime between 1892 and 1910. Ten years of searching have produced no results so far. Might he have used another name?
