Doing research on two families from Clarkfield or Granite Falls -- members of both probably still living there.  My husband's paternal grandmother was Kirstin Gun Hilda Falkum (probably known as Hilda) and she married Charles (or Charley) Mitchell (or Michael) Johnson in YM Co.  They later moved to Ottertail Co. Henning Township.   I know that there was a Raymond Falkum living in Granite Falls until his death
in 1997.  Would appreciate hearing from any Falkums or Johnson still in that area.   My husband is Charles Bradford Johnson born 11/17/41 in Henning, MN to Ruby and C. Luverne Johnson.  Thank you.

My name is Werner Lichter and I am searching for the emigrants from Trier region in the country of Rheinland Pfalz, Germany to USA.  In a notary document from 1900 I have found the following information about an emigrant to Saint Leo, Yellow Medicine county, Minnesota.  He was called in german "Mathias MAYER", farmer in Saint Leo since the time before 1898. With his family he imigrated in that town 1881-1897. The place or origin is well known. It is the city of BADEM (with a M) near Bitburg, Trier-region, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. This is not far away
from the european border Germany<->Luxemburg.   See also:  Lookups and Surnames.

I am finding that some of my family has spent some time in Yellow Medicine County.  Martin B. ELSTAD and his wife, Ingborg (Belle  FRICKSON) where there living in Canby in 1911 when their son, Wilbur Irvin ELSTAD was born.  In 1905 Belle was living with her parents in Deuel Co., SD and was unmarried (she was b. 1868).   She must have m. shortly after.

I believe that Belle's mother, Bertha (TRULSON/THOMPSON) FRICKSON may have been living with them.  Bertha is my GrGr.Grandmother.  I have been unable to find her on either the 1900 or the 1910 Census Records.  The Elstads (and Bertha) moved to Renville Co., and then in 1924 to Pine Co., MN.  Bertha d. 24 Dec. 1925.

Looking for any information on this family, marriage record of Belle and Martin, 1910 Census record, and ??.  I have much information
to share on descendants of this Southern MN family.  Some of the family retained the TRULSON name, some changed to THOMPSON.   A few related names are:  MAEL, SCHUCHARDT, DISTAD, ROBBINS, BOSSENECKER, KNUDTSON, ABBOTT, MILLER, PARMETER, STUSSY, EATON, JORDAHL, LENN, RYSTAD, SCHAD, BALLANTINE,  and others.

I am trying to find my biological father.  His parents lived in Canby, Minnesota and I thought perhaps I could find information on them first.  Their names were Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Lucas.  I think perhaps they died during the 1980's and that I could find obituraries on their deaths, which may or may not list his place of residence.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you.

I am researching the families and descendants of John Jacob Huffman and wife   Sarah Neville. Said to be the first settlers in Hammer Township; they raised seven children and were well known in Canby and Gary. I am also researching John's brother, Henry Edward Huffman and wife Margaret Hendry.  They followed John to YMC about three months later and farmed adjoining
acreage, and were said to have raised ten children. This family was also well known in the area. It is believed that Henry's son Edward Byron Huffman ran a hardware store in Gary. These people arrived from Pennsylvania in the 1870's.
I welcome anyone researching these names or the areas to please contact me so that we can compare notes and data.

I'm researching my family history.  The Gibsons came to Little Falls in 1857 from Kingston, Canada.  They settled at thesouth end of Round
Prairie but later moved to Bear Head then back to Little Falls.  My great-grandmother Eva (Gibson) married Edward Schrupp.  Eva Gibson was
born in Todd Co. 4/5/1889.  Their children were Cecil, Iris, Richard (my grandfather), Wanda, and I think Morton.  The Schrupp's came from
Germany in the mid 1830's and both Jacob Schrupp Sr. and Fredricka (Albrecht)Schrupp are buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at Wood Lake, MN.  Jacob Sr. died 1/2/18 and Fredricka died 3/2/24.  Together they had about ten children all of whom stayed in Wood Lake area or possibly very near.  If you can help or this is too long, please let me know.  I'm new to this quite challenging research and need assistance.   Thank you for your time.  Elizabeth Collins

I have ancestors who lived in Yellow Medicine Co, MN namely Daniel Birdsall (buried in Woodlake Cemetery) and his family who migrated there in the 1850's from Oxford, Benton Co, IN and before that from London, Ontario,Can.  Quakers.  Also, his daughter, Anna Catherine Birdsall, who married Milton Lee Clark.  I have not been able to find where my Clarks were from in MN. Milton's son, Edwin Hiram Clark, was born somewhere in MN, according to the death certificate of my father, Perry Edwin Clark.  I am wondering if you know whom Clarkfield, MN was named after?  I am thinking there might be a connection to my Clarks.  Thank you for answering.

Greta Krahn Thursday, May 28, 1998
I am seeking information about my great grandparents, Charles (or Carl/Karl) and Albertina Krahn, and Charles and Minnie Prey.  Census records from 1900 show the Krahn and Prey families living on adjacent or nearby farms in Oshkosh Township, Y.M. County.  Son John C. Krahn and daughter Mary Prey (my grandparents) were married in 1898, had one son Otto by 1900, and were living with John's parents and older invalid brother Fred.  To the best of my knowledge, John also had at least two older sisters, Wilhelmina (or Minnie) married to Fred Fuhrman, and Louisa married to Henry Tesch.  The Krahn family had moved to Y.M. County from Kane Co. Illinois some years earlier,  then moved to Spokane Co. Washington in about 1902-03.   They were probably very active in the local Lutheran Church in Oshkosh Township, Y.M. County.    Charles and Minnie Prey had 7 children at home in 1900--Amiel (or Emil), Charlie, Earnest, Clara, Herman, Willie and Tilda, and another married daughter Ida, who was older than Mary.  They, too, were probably very active in the Lutheran Church.  To my knowledge, most of the Prey siblings remained living in the mid-west, primarily in Minnesota (near Canby, Mankato), Iowa and possibly Illinois.  I would welcome any information which would help me definitely identify the two daughters mentioned, and/or any other children of Charles and Albertina Krahn.  I am also most eager to learn from where in Germany/Prussia both the Krahns and Preys emigrated.  I heard family "legends" that they came from "hinter Pummern" or further Pomerania, which is now in Poland, but I would especially like to know a specific town or district.   I was also particularly interested in your recent posting from Jan Weaver who is seeking information on Minnie and William Lueders.  I think they may possibly be related as I've heard the Lueders name mentioned as cousins on the Krahn side of my family.  I would be interested in connecting with her but was unable to access her e-mail through your web site.  Could you send it to me?  Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide to aid my in my family history research.  Greta Krahn

I'm trying to find the address of the local library in Canby, so I can request obituaries and 50th wedding ann. newspaper articles on my relatives, William and Minnie LUEDERS.   I would also like the addresses of St. Paul's and St. Stephen's cemeteries.   Is Oshkosh Township in Y. M. county?  This gg uncle helped to organize Nicolai Lutheran Church in that township.  Is there an address for that church?  Thanks for your help, I don't know who else to ask!

Michael Swanson Sunday, May 10, 1998
I was looking for vacation areas when I stumbled across this area.  I think my great grandfather came to your area first from the old country.  His name was Per August Swenson....it would have been the late 1800's or very early 1900's as my grandfather was born in Minnesota in 1905.  The reason I find this interesting is that as I sit at my computer I can see an old trunk with the inscription....Per August Swenson...Clarkfield Box 101....Yellow Medicine Co. Mn.  Does that mean anything to you as far as address?  My wife and I are planning a trip through Minnesota during the week of June 6th or so to the 13th this year.  I would be interested in looking into my great grandfathers roots....Thanks....Michael Swanson.....I know my last name is not the same...but that is another story....Michael

I am researching Moultons:  Jasper P. and Lora (Dorrance) Moulton, my great-grandparents.  My grandfather Royal Jasper Moulton was born in Canby, YM Co. November 16, 1879, according to what he wrote himself.  The family also had connections in Lac Qui Parle County, because he wrote that he graduated from h.s. in Dawson.   Jasper & Lora lived in Dawson later, until their deaths (1930s & 1940s).   (R. J. died 1952 in Pierre, SD.)  I would specifically like to find evidence of birth for R.J. Moulton.   The County Recorder's office in Lac Qui Parle and Yellow Med. counties do not have his birth record, per recent telephone calls.  (I called to ask the price -- they kindly offered to check first to see whether they had it.)  Of course, all information about the family would be welcome!   Thank you.  Deane Dierksen -- great-granddaughter of Jasper & Lora.

Last fall I was in the county and Granite Falls looking for information on my emigrant g-grandparents.
